How To Heal Scars

Scars are formed when we experience trauma to the deep layers of our skin from surgery, injury, etc. In some cases these scars can become raised and or discolored. A question on many people's minds is how to heal scars. Treatments may include scar revision surgery, cortisone injections, or pressure therapy.

One of the more popular treatments is the use of silicone sheeting. With this treatment a thick sheet of medical grade silicone with a sticky undersurface is applied to the skin sticky side down and worn for several weeks. Although this treatment has proven to be very effective, it is also very cumbersome. The sheets are bulky and very visible if worn on areas not covered by clothing. When worn under clothing they are hard to keep on the skin as clothing rubs against them constantly.

In 1998 Hanson Medical introduced Scarfade Scar Gel, a topical silicone treatment that can be applied like a cream. This scar treatment product offers the benefits of silicone sheeting without the drawbacks. Scarfade is an alternative that is easier to use, more comfortable and more convenient than gel sheeting. In addition, cosmetics can be worn over the top of Scarfade.
