Scar Removal
Nearly everybody has a scar somewhere on his or her body. A scar is a tissue overgrowth that forms as a result of some type of trauma to the deep layers of the skin such as a burn, injury
or surgery. In some cases, scars can become raised, reddened and firm. These “hyper” enlarged scars are called hypertrophic or keloid scars. In the most extreme cases surgery may be
necessary to remove these scars. Surgery may come in the form of an incision or treatment with a laser. Many people think surgery is the only option and therefore choose to live with their scar
even though they would rather not. In reality non-surgical scar removal treatments do exist. These treatments come in the form of pressure dressings, cortisone injections and creams and gels
that are applied directly to the scar. One of the more popular treatments is the use of silicone sheeting. With this treatment a thick sheet of medical grade silicone with a sticky undersurface is
applied to the skin sticky side down and worn for several weeks. The idea is to soften and flatten the scar by realigning the collagen fibers. Although this treatment has proven to be very effective,
it is also very cumbersome. The sheets are bulky and may fall off at night or be too visible to wear in public. In 1998 Hanson Medical introduced Scarfade Scar Gel, a topical silicone treatment
that can be applied like a cream. This product offers the benefits of silicone sheeting without the drawbacks. Scarfade is invisible, safe and comfortable. It can also be covered with cosmetics
and or sunscreen. For more information, including clinical studies, we invite you to browse our website.
